N Levels

Most of you would know that I came from the N levels. But not many of you would know that it was in fact the happiest time of my academic life.

Sad to say that when I saw the papers today and saw my school (which I wont name), I wasnt surprised to see the ranking. Well they kinda deserve this placing.

Over 10 years ago, I was among the best people I ever knew. My bunch of my classmates that is. We werent quite the hooligans which the general public see us. perhaps we are prankster but thats nothing more than a moment to laugh. But our batch were the brightest lot that my dear school has ever seen.

Our N levels were the highest recorded ever. A good majority of us made it through to the next level. But hey lets not be modest. A fair amount of us collect the maximum of 3 points. I would dare say its about 20% if not more. We are all very proud and happy with our achievements and we have our teachers who believed in us to thank for.

On that day when we are supposed to collect our grades, guess what our Principal was not around. In fact its our favorite Physic teacher who gave it to us. He kept it simple and joke with each of us as we collect our transcripts. Whereas our dear Principal had decided to take the day off.

Come to think of it, when there was a presentation of awards for all student in each level. The N level were conveniently left out. Well I guess she believes our grades aint on par and its not worth the trouble to hand out this award.

Anyway, as I mention we did quite well that year. As I recall we were the top 10 N stream students and was awarded by PM during a MOE ceremony. And yes our Principal happily collected this. After all this was the only award she ever received.

Part of the award was a sum of cash rewards. And till this day, we have not seen it. There was no treat for us nor was this pass on to the next batch. I guess its easy to forget.

Anyhow, my dear school never achieved much after this award. Perhaps in some ways I am glad they wont be. Its pointless to receive any more when you did something right and yet were never appreciated.

The sun, the sand and the sea

Well the only good news is that I din sign up for it, so well its not a regular fixture for me to sail weekly. But sadly I still sail weekly and each time on a different ship.

Recenly it occur to me that I have been sailing so much that the Cook and Medic recognise me. They would talk to me all the time and complain about sailing (you think).

Anyhow, I am sadden to be away so much. Break my momentum each time I dont have the ability to contact my friends and family. For now I cant wait for this aspect of my job to end. Till then, since you cant run away, might as well make the best of it.

May the stars at night accompany me in my dream,
May the setting sun cast shadow to my shoulders,
For at the platform where I stand enjoying the breeze,
I may look forth for a day that this sight would never end.

seasick

back from a 1 night sailing. and yes i arrived back not too long ago. argh

it rained and the wind was horribly strong.

bad enough for me to fell sick on the boat.

but then again, its probably because i locked myself up typing a report which resulted this.

ah well. really hate sailings

Perhaps some of you might have heard of this. For those who din, its a daily ritual which brings out the best of both countries without any hostility. Then again, so does cricket.

Welcome to hell

Blood giving

I gave blood once more last friday. And since then been feeling sleepy easily and getting hungry earlier.

This is not so bad as I could sleep early rather than the norm of 1-2am. However though I get hungry earlier, I am still unable to recapture my form of the past. I no longer able to eat more than my fair share. I have lost the touch and would be happy that it stays this way.

Come to think of it, I took my weight at the blood center and they reported 67kg. This is the lightest I have ever been for years now.

Anyway, I am nearing my 25th blood donation. It has been 8-9 years for me and I still get a little excited watching the needle goes in. If you ask why do I consistently donate blood and been asking others to give as well, my reply would be that its doing a good deed for others and for you as well.

To be honest, I started giving out of the sheer anxiety of watching the needle go in and the blood flowing out. However later on, I was alerted to the plight of the call for donation. There are so many people who needs blood when it comes to operation and the bank could only do so much. I could only give every 3 months yet a single operation might take up 5-8 bags. I simply cannot save others on my own no more.

Anyway, spare a thought and disregard the size of the needle for the time being.

Give it a shot, its alot less painful then you think.

If you have decided to be brave and try this, let me know. I would come down to support and dinner of your choice would be on me. This is my promise.

almost 2 years

Was checking back on my blog on the day i went for an interview for this job.

Cant believe that I walked in 2 years back and met my boss then.

Its amazing how time flies and how much changes has been around. Plenty of my seniors left till I am the most senior now.

Just a month more and I would have celebrated my 2 years of adulthood. Its at that point 2 years back when I told myself that I would decide if I should stay or go.

The draw for me to leave is ever so strong. There is even more reason lately that prompt me to make my move sooner than later. However, I have decided to hang on a while more, for I am binded by Loyalty.

My boss has treated me well this past 2 years. I knew that this is the busiest period of the project as well and me leaving would cause a big stir. So I have decided to hold on till the project is winding down before considering again.

Would relook at this in April.

Theo Jansen

Here is one artist who also is an engineer.

Theo Jansen designed and build these walking machines which gathered their energy from the endless breeze from the beach. These gave them the ability to walk on forever.

I salute you Mr Theo Jansen. Let the world knows that there is art even from a logical mind like yours.

Get Smart

I miss the all time greatest sitcom ever. And they would be turning this into a movie soon. However the original creation was still the one which inspire creative and comedy roll into one.

C&C 12 years anniversary

Most hardcore strategy gamers would know/hear/play the greatest game of all time. And that is of course Command and Conquer, aka C&C.

Its the best game that ever run on Windows 95 and once you start you can never stop.

Although now Westwood (the original maker) has been taken over by EA, its good to know that they are still making a great effort in the C&C universe. Bring back Kane and making the new games fun. But I guess best of all is that they have released the good old game as free downloads now.

Go grab it
