I met up my ex for lunch today. Its amusing that though we are the same age our lives has been so different this past few years.

For the past 5 years, I went to NS, went to University and only recently completed my studies. She found a job, found a husband, got married and had a kid. Yes, she is a young working mom now. Its scary to think we have diverge so much.

Anyway, on top of the diapers talk and milk bottles. (do you know that even if you feed the baby only milk he will still shit, i din.) I told her that I would have to cough up 2 short films ideas within this week.

I had always wanted to be a director but this is the first time I am doing the script as well and that scares me. Anyway, the first film is supposed to be a short commercial for a particular childcare centre. The second film is supposed to be about conversation between 2 moms with them discussing about the childcare topics.

Anyone wanna help? I am thinking of changing the 2nd film to be more of a documentry type. Sighs. I dun think I need any "motif" or any "Mise en scène".

Singapore robotic games 2005

The SRG is coming about once more. Head down to Ngee Ann poly from the 5th-7th May 2005 to visit the grand event which promises many new and exciting robots on display.

2 months 24 days

I called up AMD today. The other party who picked up was a nice lady. And nooo i am not fascinating over a sweet young voice (which she has) but rather I am glad to know that its not some Pes C2L9 clerk who has a bochup attitude helping me.

I asked nicely regarding how much ns liability i have left. She asked me to hold on, went to the pantry, made herself a nice cup of coffee, before telling me softly over the phone, OEI Boy ah, you ahh disrupted after 2 yrs and 1 mth. so ah, you must come back for 2mths 24 days, ah.

I thanked her and said goodbye. 2 mths 24 days = 84 days = 12 weeks

now i got something to look forward to

And I have already gotten confirmation for my flight out to Sydney on 7th may and back on the 25th may. Interestingly when I email a local travel agency asking them about the airfare for those dates, I received an interesting reply asking me which year I want to travel. Must be a newbie at the other end or some 17 year old waiting to enter poly.

Anyhow, I called up Qantas wondering if I could return from Brisbane instead. Sadly they said that since its an offer they cant changed it for me. WTF. There was no difference in both the pricing but since they are so rigid, I guess I wont be flying with them again.

Bus driver or Lorry driver

Its always interesting to see how things work out. I was selected for the military pilot program and went for it with an open mind. That was went I fell in love with flying and even though they kick me out for trying to endanger both the instructor's life and mine.

Anyhow, a friend of a friend has the application form for the commercial pilot program. Its likely I would take it up once more. What fun would that be.

Well he did warned me that its likely I end up as a cargo pilot instead of a commercial pilot. Well makes no different. Its either I end up as a bus driver or a lorry driver.

Well the project is technically over. Very soon Spike and his buddies would be in someone else hands. This little blog will be undergoing revamping. Spike would no longer write, or rather BLM would no longer write in 3rd person perception.

The journey been good. The walk is done. Time for a new start.

Flying out

BLM would be taking a short trip in the month of May... well maybe not that short.

He will be flying off to Sydney on the 7th and returning on 25th. For all readers here, you can rest assure he will attempt to update this space while he is away. No promises of course.

There are 3 locations he is heading to, Sydney, Brisbane and Gold Coast. Any recommendations for good food, good stay and good visit are welcomed.

Kopiwriter's 26 birthday

Kopiwriter has a wonderful and thoughtful companion in NDR. She planned this fabulous surprise for his 26th which we all feel is better than the last one.

Quite a number of people turned up. Kopiwriter was merely surprised since NDR had been very suspicious all day long. They were all at Hyatt Martini Bar, a Up market location. Which is mainly why there is no beer games and loud drinking songs, but still there were enough eye candy to go around.

The gang bought him a new wallet to replace the poor cow skin which he had been carrying around for 8 years now. He reluctantly said goodbye to.

Anyway, Eejean's husband-to-be got the bill and we all felt quite bad about it. Well not really all of us but anyhow we will pay them back.

BLM had his first paper today. Well today is also his last paper. So within 1 day BLM came from being student to an unemployed person. Anyone out there that has an opening for an engineering position?

How long can you sit still

A close friend of BLM (eejean) was around the area and decided to give him a call. BLM was still on his way to school when he gotten the call... He was supposed to meet his other fren to study. Anyhow he left to catch up with this old friend who would be getting hitched soon.

Later back in the school library, BLM sat on weirdly shaped chair. In fact he sat on the same chair to study for the next chair 4 hours. He only got up once to pee but otherwise was pretty fixed on the uncomfortable contours of the chair. The friend he was with comment that the 3 of them formed a balance. BLM is a Fire element, she is a Earth element while her friend is a Water element.

Of course BLM does not know what this all means.

Smoking chimp

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - A South African zoo is trying to persuade its star chimpanzee to kick a bad smoking habit.

Charlie, a grown male chimp and the Bloemfontein Zoo, has been picking up cigarettes thrown to him by visitors and smoking them -- a habit he probably picked up by observing humans, zoo officials told the SAPA news agency on Thursday.

"Baby chimps pick up habits by mimicking adults and we think he started mimicking smokers at his enclosure which probably led to smokers throwing him cigarettes," spokesman Daryl Barnes told SAPA.

Barnes said Charlie was already showing the signs of a true nicotine addict.

"He even acts like a naughty schoolboy by hiding the cigarette when staff approach the area," Barnes said, adding that the zoo was determined to help him quit.

Barnes said the most important thing was that people stop providing Charlie with cigarettes or any other treats, noting the chimp already had three bad teeth because of all the cans of sweet soft drinks that people throw at him.

Charlie is not the only smoking chimpanzee. A zoo in the Chinese city of Zhengzhou reported last year that one of its chimps had taken up smoking and was desperately bumming cigarette butts off visitors.

BLM was woken up today by a familiar tune. He probably dreamt of it cos the radio was not turn on.

Its the tune of "Oh Carol," and carries on like "I am but a fool, darling i love you, though you treat me cruel...."

Well the fun part is that this wonderful song has been "updated" by friends from his batch. At every pause of the song these 2 sets of phases were inserted in a alternate manner.... "Underneath the ponchor" & "In between my legs".

So imagine, "Oh carol (underneath the ponchor), I am but a fool (in between my legs), darling i love you (underneath the ponchor, though you treat me cruel (in between my legs)....

You get the idea.

Social expectation vs doing it your way

For months now, BLM has been regularly engaging in debates with the Masters and PHD students working in the lab. The following is what he has established.

1. PHD and Masters qualification = big money
2. Must get married before 30
3. Get a 4-room HDB house 2 years into marriage
4. Have 1-2 kids

BLM cant help but felt disgusted by all this. This is what a government path to a decent livelihood looks like. Its becoming a social norm as everybody is aiming to do the same. Stepping out of this path would make you a renegade, a "risk taker" or just a werido. (Its strange to note that everyone belives he is above average as well)

Needless to say, the debates which happened between them were quite heated at times. This is largely due to BLM belief that good qualification does not necessary entitled one to a better life. The education path which singapore stand by, produces excellent students. Students who would be allowed to be directed by their educators to succeed a certain mindset of success. By this mindset, studying hard and doing well will get you a good paying job, therefore success is guarantee.....

Well BLM does not believe in all these. For one thing, the education path produces good employees not employers. (ok the good employee is debatable... but lets leave out the moral and entical issues and just focus on the working performance) BLM wanted a businese of his own. By doing so, he will become this renegade...

By deciding to be his own employer, he became a joke to the rest. But this will not keep it from continue his dream, instead if anything it just makes him more firm in his beliefs.

Well its a long long story and to cut it short, the moral of the story is follow your dreams and decide on your own path, dont let others tell you otherwise.

Liverpool vs Juventus

Well you probably know now that BLM is a huge Liverpool fan. Tonite (at least in my time), Liverpool will be playing against Juventus in the quarter finals 2nd leg. Liverpool score 2-1 in the first leg and that would be that a minimum of a draw is needed to proceed to the next round.

BLM would very much like to stay up for it, however he has to be up at 6.30am tomorrow for a not-so-important test. The match starts at 2.30am and would end close to 4.30am. You might have thought, well just skip the sleep and watch the match.

However the problem would be if liverpool din win (touch wood), BLM would be in a horrible mood for the test.....

Royal Milk Tea

BLM was given some gifts from his kanojyo's memosa. She passed to him a pack of green tea, some durian cakes and 1 large pack of Royal milk tea.

The milk tea in particular is what BLM is looking forward to drink. It taste a bit like the Tey-pin which you can order at a normal coffeeshop but has more body and aroma. Yum....

Final presentation finally over

BLM has finished his presentation. Now its left up to TSM to finish his tomorrow. What was thought to be a scary adventure turns out more relaxing than expected. Unknowingly the examiner was rather nice today. Very very nice to be exact.

Oh and a unexpected guest came to sit in to listen to BLM present. He was a rather odd guy who came with a walking cane. He was vocally amusing and cant wait to see the video clips. There was a sparkle in his eyes when he finally saw it and love every bit of it. Interestingly he suggest to BLM if he was interested in taking up further studies and so on .... BLM was just glad that this is over so he said yes to anything.

Much later it was reveal to him that that odd looking fellow is Dr TH Lee. The head of control engineering. He does not have to teach any more and is sitting many times higher than the examiner. If he is impressed, things are looking good.

Ohh dear ohh dear. BLM is barely ready for his final presentation for tomorrow. Well the powerpoint is re-edited and ready, the video clip is sufficiently self-explainary and he will be driving to school tomorrow (which means he wont be late).

But till now, he has not practise for his presentation as yet.

SA Campfire 2005

BLM skipped most of the important Law lessons to help out for his scouts campfire. Its a wonderful night of extremely loud screaming, dancing girls and lots of exchange of stares between opposite sexes. Maybe one day years later, these kids can look back and said, "Hey we met at this campfire and see what has happened...."

CA3 over

Our 2 bosses took 30 mins to listen to both my makers. They had earlier reserve 1.5 hrs for them each but having heard them present the same thing during the Nee Soon Camp visit, they opt to allow my makers to skip as much as possible.

And indeed they have. BLM skipped like 35 slides out of his 53. TSM skipped 20+ too. In the end, its the video clips which they all wanted to see.

BTW now they are back in the lab and TSM is complaining to BLM who has been really untidy TO CLEAR THE PLACE UP.

Filming done

BLM started filming of my other brother in the afternoon. All he wanted to capture is the movement of us walking. It would be useful for his presentation for tomorrow and Monday.

TSM only appeared at 5pm. He looked tired too. Apparently his hp died since tues and he left the charger somewhere in the lab. Anyhow, they took me to a carpeted classroom for filming.

Boy was there alot of NGs. I tend to get stage fright all the time. When I was told to walk straight toward the other end, I kept going off track. Took 12 takes to get that 1 right. After that I am suppose to seek out a "bomb" placed on the floor. Now that took like 7 takes before I actually found it.

The whole process is a 45 mins filming for a 2 mins demostration.

My makers were afraid that on the actual day i get stage fright like so and did everything wrongly. Capturing my best moment is their only option.

Now you dont need to hold

All you do stand in front of the sensor. Everything else will be taken care of.... For guys only

Transformers: the movie (live action)

The news is too good to be true. After some rumours which started early last year about the movie, it has been a quiet for the past few months. Many said that its just unfound lies. But all the true fans worldwide held their breadth in hope of THAT DAY.

Well its been confirmed a release date late next year. Which would mean they ought to start work on it immediately. Considering that starwars took 3 years to produce. I wonder how good is a 1.5 year production. Yes yes, a normal plain romatic movie will probably take 9 months to wrap up.... Director Jack Neo is known for his speed in local productions which are compressed within 6 mths.



But hey Transformers is sure to be filled with special effects no less... Unless of course a bunch of car manufacturers can team up and create the real things... Now that will be a movie that will knock LOTR from the No. 1 spot.

BLM decided to introduce an interesting site a week.

Home for the day

BLM stayed home today. He needed this break very much. A much needed rest indeed. On top of that he is nursing a cold.

For the whole of today he is running after his nose. A real wet and slippery nose indeed.

He is a workacholic and cant get use to the idea of sitting down doing nothing much. Somehow he cant picture himself doing nothing for 5 weeks after his exams. Anyhow he will be home for tomorrow as well. He needs something they call sleep. Not to mention Liverpool is playing against Juventus tonite.....

Hopefully Liverpool will win.

Well BLM slaved the whole day today. He came in early and at once started work finishing the remote controller. He could have completed it a little earlier had it not been for TSM who took the circuit board home and was MIA till 2pm.

Anyway, BLM worked till 5pm before completing it all. As he power it on, the LCD was not working. Starting to panic he re-checked everything and found them to be in order. Its probably due to the specifications of the 4 bar LCD is not the same as the 1 bar LCD. Or it could be that the software written for it is not optimise for 4 bars yet...

In any cases, BLM is taking a 2 days break. He needed it after spending 8 straight days in school. Also, he needs the time to do something they call "study". Not to mention he is suffering from slight flu. Damn the cold weather.

The passing of a great Man

We all knew for the past few weeks that his death was inevitable. Yet when it happens today, shock and sadness were in many eyes. May he rest in peace. May the seeds that he had planned grow up well.

They are all the same

BLM is still a little piss. Months ago, he managed to pull off running a caroling project which had been shelved for 5 years. The boy scouts and the girl guides had great fun in it. They learn to open their eyes and see the greyer side of singapore which one does not see while sitting and staring at the computer screen. The boys and girls became close, with friendships started. (Its hard being in an all boys school) And he too met a special someone there.

However, just few weeks before that. A close aide of BLM cant stop talking about the choice of the girl school. Its by no mean a highly respected school and true enough its just a normal neighbourhood school. Yet this does not means they are any less achieved.

He is pissed becos despite all the work many have put in to help out, there are those who never sweat one bit who likes to do all the talking that "we" could have done better. That "we" should find a better girl school. That "we" should not be associated with them.....

BLM will like to note that that aide of him was told early this year to find a reputed girl school for thinking day back in feb. But feb came and left without any activity of such.

Good school or not is not the issue here. The girls coming from it are not any different. Its disturbing to look down on others . Its even more disturbing to think that our boy scouts should only be associated with girls from similar ranking.

BLM is sicked of hearing "suggestions". Either do it or shut up.

Mounting of LCD and keypad

This always happen. Always.

Just when you tot that the project is nearing completion. New problems pop up. OKOK maybe this time is not quite so a new problem.

When BLM designed the remote controller board, he din have a good idea on which part should go where. He just placed the components out of convenience. In the end, if this board is placed upright into the box, the LCD will appear upside-down and the keypad will be lopsided.

There are 2 things he could do. One is to use cables to extent the LCD and thereby flipping it or redesign the board again.....

A bunch of stuffs BLM ordered weeks back has finally. You should have seen the size of that box!!! Its huge.

Anyway, with that arrival BLM has now all the parts needed to complete the project. He would have to spend some time next week in the workshop to mount the keypad and lcd to the controller box.

He cant wait for all that. Soo exciting....

Apparently the guys who handle the NUS webcast, has found that the math lecture which features the "proposal" is taking up too much bandwidth. News like this spreads like fire and lots of ppl log in to have a look on what happen.
I swear it was not me....


Anyway the last i check 7000+ ppl have seen the clip. On an average day only, 200 odd hits will be on any of this webcast.

Oh well, the rumour remains that someone has captured it and placed it on his/her blog.
